East Elementary School in Long Beach was recently crowned the January State Champion in the world’s largest math competition, hosted by Prodigy Education. As a global leader in game-based learning, Prodigy Education's State Challenge offers students a fun and engaging way to practice math through an exciting monthly contest. Participants work together as a school to compete against others for prizes and the coveted title of state champion.

In January, students at East Elementary School correctly answered 44,414 questions, securing the title of State Champion and winning a pizza party for their school, Prodigy swag, and Prodigy Math memberships for students. The Long Beach students collectively answered more correct questions during last month’s challenge than any other school in New York State to win this prestigious honor. The Long Beach students and their teachers showcased outstanding teamwork during the competition, with their dedication and effort bringing pride to the East school family.

We are incredibly proud of our students' dedication to improving their math skills and academic achievement with Prodigy, said East Elementary Principal Kathleen Connolly. Our Prodigy Lead Teacher, Mr. Edward Courtney, empowered the students initially and the on-going collaborative efforts of the East staff have proven that supportive academic environments succeed when everyone works together as a team.”

East Elementary students will have the opportunity for national recognition in the Prodigy National Cup this Spring.

The mission of Prodigy Education is to help students worldwide establish a love of learning by motivating them via fun, secure and accessible curriculum-aligned gameplay experiences.
