Mathematics

In grades PK-12 of the Long Beach Public Schools, we follow the new fully implemented Next Generation Math Learning Standards which replaced the Common Core Learning Standards. To compare the changes between the 2011 New York State P-12 Common Core Learning Standards and the 2017 Next Generation Learning Standards click and view the Mathematics Learning Standards Crosswalks

In September 2022, the New York State Board of Regents began its full implementation of the Next Generation Mathematics Learning Standards Students will be assessed on these standards according to the projected timeline as follows:

  • Spring 2023 – Grade 3-8 Mathematics and English Language Arts Assessments
  • June 2024: New Algebra I Regents Exam
  • June 2025: New Geometry Regents Exam
  • June 2026: New Algebra II and English Language Arts Regents Exams
 
Throughout the 4 elementary buildings in Long Beach students are using i-Ready Classroom curriculum for the transition into the new standards that they will be tested on in May.

At LBMS students can choose to accelerate their studies in mathematics through a pathway that includes the study of the first year of high school mathematics taking Algebra I in 8th grade.

At LBHS students have many opportunities to take higher level math classes such as AP, College and IB courses throughout their math journey.

As a math department PK-12 we pride ourselves in having many resources and supports in place for all of our students, especially those who need additional AIS, ENL or Special Education services.
